Basic Allowance for Housing

Soldiers who live off-post (meaning those who do not live in the Barracks) are required to receive BAH. This allowance is used to help off-set and pay for housing costs in the local economy to your duty station. The rate for BAH is set annually by Congress through the Defense Authorization Act for that year (i.e. FY22).

The BAH Rate is dependent on your Rank (e.g. E-4) and your years of service (i.e. 2 years or more, etc) and if it is at the Dependent or Without Dependent Rate (i.e. unmarried SGT).
